The Birmingham Panthers NXT Gen displayed remarkable resilience in their home clash against the London Mavericks last Saturday. After several weeks of narrow defeats, the squad came out determined to turn their fortunes around and secure a well-earned victory.
A challenging first quarter saw the Birmingham Panthers trail 10–13, but they responded emphatically. A dominant second quarter, netting 22 goals, swung momentum firmly in their favour and sent them into halftime with a 32–25 lead. The second half proved fiercely competitive, with both sides pushing hard to close the gap. By the end of the third quarter, the Birmingham Panthers held a slender 46–44 advantage, setting up a tense final period.
Defensively, Alyssa Rose was outstanding, showing relentless determination to disrupt play and create turnovers that were swiftly converted by the attacking end. In the shooting circle, Sophie Egbaran and Pippa Dixon proved crucial, finding their rhythm to keep the scoreboard ticking.
In the final quarter, the Birmingham Panthers held their nerve and pulled away to secure a 59–52 victory, a testament to a complete team performance. In the post-match awards, Alyssa Rose claimed both Players’ Player and Coaches’ Award, as well as sharing Opposition’s Player recognition with Sophie Egbaran.
With plenty of positives to build on, the Birmingham Panthers now turn their attention to their next challenge against Manchester Thunder on Sunday 22nd March at the Utilita Arena Birmingham.
