Birmingham Panthers NXT Gen Claim Dramatic Win Over Top-of-the-Table Side

02 April 26

The Birmingham Panthers NXT Gen edged out a thrilling win against table-toppers Loughborough Lightning on Saturday. When these sides last met, the Birmingham Panthers staged an incredible comeback from 15 goals down to win by two, making them the only team to defeat Loughborough Lightning not once, but twice this season.

For much of the match, the Birmingham Panthers were on the back foot, with unforced errors preventing them from fully capitalising on turnovers. Heading into the final quarter, they trailed 48-53, leaving everything to play for in the closing stages.

Defensively, Caitlin O’Sullivan and Alyssa Rose were outstanding, forcing key turnovers and driving the ball back down the court. In attack, Sophie Egbaren and Emma Barrie showed composure under pressure, leading the charge in the circle. With seconds remaining, Barrie sealed the victory with a clutch Super Shot, securing a dramatic 67-66 win for the Birmingham Panthers.

Individual performances were also recognised, with Alyssa Rose named Players’ Player of the Match and Sophie Egbaren earning Opposition Player of the Match. The Coaches’ Player of the Match award was shared between Rose and Egbaren, highlighting their exceptional impact across the game.

The Birmingham Panthers NXT Gen have a bye this weekend but return to action on 11th April to face the Lexus Nexus Dragons.
