Birmingham Panthers are excited to confirm the signing of Antonia Mitchell as the permanent replacement for Sigi Burger, who sustained an MCL injury last week. Mitchell joins Birmingham Panthers from the Loughborough Lightning NXT Gen squad and will link up with the team for the remainder of the season.
A standout talent within the NXT Gen programme, Mitchell has consistently impressed coaches and teammates alike with her high-level performances. Her move to Birmingham Panthers marks a major step in her career, transitioning from the development environment to a full-time Super League contract.
Head Coach Jo Trip expressed her enthusiasm about the new addition:
“We are thrilled to welcome Antonia to Birmingham Panthers as she makes the step up from Loughborough Lightning’s NXT Gen programme to a permanent contract with our club for the remainder of the season. Antonia has impressed with her performances in the NXT Gen environment, and she brings with her the discipline and quality developed within a strong training environment at Loughborough. We are excited to see what she can deliver on court in the Birmingham Panthers colours.”
Mitchell’s signing adds both energy and depth to the squad as Birmingham Panthers continue their push in the final stages of the season. Her grounding at Loughborough has equipped her with the experience and skill set needed to adapt quickly to the demands of top-flight netball.
Fans can look forward to seeing Mitchell make her debut in Birmingham Panthers’ upcoming fixture against London Mavericks, where she’ll be aiming to make an immediate impact and contribute to the team’s continued momentum.
